In 2014 I delivered a fundraising event in partnership with Canary Wharf Arts and Events for Children In Need that doubled up as a team and community bonding event.
The event was invitational for members of the security team to take part in a fundraising event but also an opportunity to bond with work colleagues and also to show the community of Canary Wharf alternative sides to the security team and Canary Wharf Management. A perhaps more fun, caring and community focused side.
Approximately 17 security team members signed up! It was quite the site to behold as they came in to the dance studio with their heavy boots, belts, radios etc...looking like they were going to have a triple bypass heart operation. A selection of ex-military or management personnel that all had quite strong personalities and a fear of dance, as you can imagine.
However over a period of about 12 weeks, we created and practiced a flashmob that was performed 4 times during the day in different locations around Canary Wharf Shopping Centre. The event was a great success in that they raised £3000 that day and the Security Team were asked by management to perform again (a different routine) at the Christmas Party.
See a video below (apologies for quality of the video). Due to technical issues, it is sadly the only video footage I have that was captured by a member of the public and shared on Youtube.
Ultimately the team got to bond and experience appreciation and significance not only from their peers but from the wider community.
